Driving the Ford F150 SuperCrew Cab
Depending on the configuration, the F-150 can deliver a very different driving experience. XL models with a single cab and V6 engines drive differently than Raptors with 450 horsepower.
On the whole, however, the Ford F-150 rides smoothly and comfortably. In spite of the fact that it is a big pickup truck, it’s not difficult to maneuver in tight spots, and its handling is a bit more refined and agile than you might expect.
Traditionally, V6 and V8 engines have been naturally aspirated. If you’re looking for familiarity, these engines offer no surprises.
Among our favorites are the twin-turbo EcoBoost engines, which are available in 2.7-liter and 3.5-liter sizes. Engines with 2.7 liters prioritize efficiency, while engines with 3.5 liters produce more power and torque, resulting in more capability. Additionally, if you’re looking for the most fuel-efficient engine, you can choose the hybrid turbo V6.
For stellar performance off-road, the F-150 Raptor uses a unique tuning of its 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 to make 450 horsepower. It’s still an excellent off-roader with the style to match, and it comes in a more budget-friendly price range than the Raptor. The Rattler Package for the XL trim adds an EcoBoost-powered 2.7-liter engine, four-wheel drive (4WD), an off-road suspension, skid plates, and other off-road upgrades to the off-road F-150 models.
Interior Comfort
In addition to being practical and functional, the Ford F-150’s interior is also comfortable and high-tech. F-150s come in a variety of trim levels, from stripped-down work trucks to luxurious vehicles with massage seats. You can choose the level of luxury and technology you want from a wide variety of models.
There are three cab options on the F-150: the regular cab, the SuperCab extended cab, and the SuperCrew crew cab. There are three trim levels: Regular Cab, SuperCab, and SuperCrew, and King Ranch is only available in SuperCrew. SuperCrew models offer spacious and comfortable backseats, making them suitable for families.
Exterior Styling
There is a lot of visual variety for the exterior of this truck, just as there is for the interior of the F-150. The look can vary greatly depending on the trim. For instance, the rugged Tremor and Raptor models have an off-road appearance, while the luxurious King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited models have a more luxurious appearance. XL and XLT models have the dignified appearance of work trucks.
The 2023 model year offers a couple of new option packages. Heritage Editions feature five different two-tone paint options, 20-inch wheels, and an upper windshield logo with “75 Years.” Rattler Editions feature black dual exhaust tips, a “Rattler” box-side decal, and dark-painted aluminum wheels.
With dimensions similar to its competitors from GM and Ram, the F-150 is in line with the full-size pickup truck class.
Favorite Features
Class-leading capabilities
For the F-150, Ford claims best-in-class capabilities in terms of towing and payload. Powered by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine, it can tow up to 14,000 pounds and carry up to 3,325 pounds.
Mechanical variety
With the Raptor tuning, there are seven engine options for the F-150. Choosing the right combination of performance, capability, and efficiency is easy with this variety.
Luxurious upper trims
You’ll feel as if you’ve stepped inside a luxury vehicle when you drive the King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited trims of the Ford F-150. The upper trims come with a Bang & Olufsen audio system, massage leather seats, a Pro Power Onboard generator, and power running boards.
Rugged off-road models
Regardless of your budget, there are several models in the F-150 range that you can choose from. This new Rattler Package is even more affordable than the Tremor model, which features 33-inch all-terrain tires and an upgraded suspension.
BlueCruise hands-free driving
In North America, Ford’s BlueCruise semi-autonomous driving system covers over 130,000 miles in “Blue Zones.” The system is available on Tremor, King Ranch, and Platinum trim levels, as well as Limited trims.
SYNC 4
In addition to the 8-inch touchscreen and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, the F-150 features the user-friendly SYNC 4 infotainment system. The XLT model has an optional 12-inch navigation screen; the Lariat trim comes standard with one.
Engine & Transmission
One of the many strengths of the Ford F-150 is its wide range of engines. Considering its efficiency and affordability, the 3.3-liter V6 engine is a good value. For those seeking reliable horsepower, there is a 5.0-liter V8 available.
On the F-150, you can choose between two turbocharged EcoBoost engines. In the Raptor, a 3.5-liter V6 is more performance-oriented and is more efficient than a 2.7-liter V6.
A PowerBoost turbocharged V6 powers the hybrid F-150, which is obviously the most efficient engine available, but maintains muscle.
As a final note, the new Raptor R is powered by a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 found in Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 models. This vehicle has 700 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque to compete with the Ram 1500 TRX.
A turbo-diesel engine is available on the Chevy Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, and Ram 1500, but not on the Ford F-150.
In most trims of the F-150, rear-wheel drive is standard, while four-wheel drive is optional. Among the trim levels Tremor, Raptor, and Limited, four-wheel drive is standard.
